Safe Ways to Pay Chinese Suppliers in 2026

Paying a Chinese supplier sounds simple, but this is where many buyers make their biggest mistake.

I have seen buyers find a supplier online, agree on a good price, send money too quickly, and then lose contact with the seller. Sometimes the WhatsApp account disappears. Sometimes the bank name does not match the company name. Sometimes the supplier suddenly says the money is “stuck.”

By that time, it is usually too late.

When you source products from China, price is important. But payment safety is more important.

As a China sourcing agent, I always check the supplier and the payment account before any money is sent. A cheap quotation means nothing if the payment goes to the wrong person.

1. T/T Bank Transfer

T/T bank transfer is still the most common payment method for B2B orders in China.

For most factory orders, the normal term is:

30% deposit before production, 70% balance before shipment.

This method is widely accepted by Chinese factories. But buyers need to check one detail very carefully.

The beneficiary name must match the supplier’s company name.

For example, if the invoice says:

Shenzhen XYZ Technology Co., Ltd.

Then the bank account should also belong to:

Shenzhen XYZ Technology Co., Ltd.

If the supplier asks you to pay a personal account, such as “Zhang Wei” or another individual name, you should stop and check again.

This does not always mean it is a scam, but it is a serious risk. A real factory should be able to receive money through a company bank account.

2. PayPal

PayPal can be useful for samples or small test orders.

It is fast, and many overseas buyers feel more comfortable using it. But for bulk orders, PayPal is usually expensive.

Chinese suppliers often pass the PayPal fee to the buyer. For a small sample, that may be acceptable. For a few thousand dollars, the extra cost becomes unnecessary.

My suggestion is simple:

Use PayPal for samples under $500.
For larger orders, use a safer B2B payment method.

3. Western Union

I do not recommend Western Union for normal business orders.

It is difficult to trace, and once the money is picked up, it is very hard to recover. If a supplier insists on Western Union for a large order, be careful.

Most reliable Chinese factories have company bank accounts. If they only want Western Union or a personal account, that is not a good sign.

4. Wise

Wise is becoming more popular with small and medium buyers.

The exchange rate is usually better than traditional banks, and the fee is often lower. For some orders, it is also faster.

However, not every Chinese factory is familiar with Wise. Before using it, you still need to confirm whether the supplier can receive the payment properly and whether the receiving account matches the real company.

Be Careful with Private Accounts

One payment risk many new buyers do not know about is private account freezing.

In China, personal bank accounts are monitored more strictly than before. If a supplier uses a personal account to receive business payments, and that account gets frozen for any reason, your money may be stuck inside.

Then the factory cannot use the money to buy materials, and your production may stop.

This is why I always prefer company-to-company payment for real B2B orders.

How I Help Buyers Pay Suppliers More Safely

At MyChinaMate, I do more than find products and compare prices.

Before payment, I help buyers check:

  • whether the supplier is a real company
  • whether the business license matches the invoice
  • whether the bank account belongs to the supplier
  • whether the payment term is reasonable
  • whether the factory can actually handle the order

For buyers working with several Chinese suppliers, I can also help coordinate payments, communicate with factories in Chinese, follow up production, and reduce unnecessary transfer mistakes.

Many overseas buyers lose money not because the product is bad, but because they pay the wrong account too early.

A good China sourcing agent helps you slow down at the right moment, check the details, and make sure the order is safe before money moves.

If you need help with supplier verification, factory sourcing, payment checking, or sourcing products from China, I can help you handle the process with less risk.
